Carrying Of Credentials & Identifications

I. POLICY

All personnel, unless exempted by the Director, will carry their State/Bureau issued credentials while on duty. Additionally, agents, when armed or operating a department vehicle off duty, are required to carry their credentials. In the event an agent takes any law enforcement action while off duty, credentials will be displayed upon the request of either a member of the public or of an allied law enforcement agency.

  1. Employees of the Bureau must identify themselves to any citizen requesting such identification, by supplying their full name and identification number, except where providing such information would compromise an undercover investigation.
  2. All employees will display their employee identification badge/ID card when they arrive for work and will display the identification badge/ID card while inside of any State offices. If the identification badge/ID card is lost, the employee will immediately notify their supervisor. Notification will also be made to the Department of General Services Capitol Police and to the Comptroller’s Office of Human Resources. In the event police credentials are lost, notification will be made to all statewide law enforcement agencies.
  3. When an employee separates from the Bureau, all issued credentials/identification badges are to be returned to their immediate supervisor.

II. CANCELLATION

None.
