Maryland Nonprofits 2025 Annual Conference

MANOAC25, the Maryland Nonprofits 2025 Annual Conference, is a two-day event dedicated to strengthening the nonprofit sector through connection, learning, and inspiration. This year’s conference is centered on building organizational resilience, advancing equity, and fostering collective action. The conference opens on October 8 with the second annual Bridging Communities Conference, organized by the Comptroller of Maryland. This half-day pre-conference event will focus on State Resources for Community Development Financing, featuring three plenary panels. Sessions will highlight state programs and resources connected to the Office of the Comptroller that support community investment, revitalization, preservation, and sustainability. Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman, alongside Governor Wes Moore, House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones, Carmel Martin, Special Secretary for the Governor’s Office for Children, and researchers from the Urban Institute, presented research findings on tax credit uptake in Maryland and announced a new state initiative to be implemented by the Office of the Comptroller to increase the number Marylanders who claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) at an event held in the Lowe House Office Building, in Annapolis, Maryland.

2025 AAPI Heritage Month Awards

Comptroller Lierman held the inaugural AAPI Heritage Awards at a ceremony in the Louis Goldstein Treasury Building on May 28, 2025. The Comptroller presented these awards to 15 Asian American and Pacific Islander business owners, community leaders, and organizations in recognition of their contributions to the State of Maryland.

The report, the second in the Office of the Comptroller’s State Spending Series, outlines the categories and types of costs associated with climate change – including both the costs of action and inaction – and explores potential funding strategies to pay for new investments to address climate change.

2024 Bridging Communities Nonprofit Conference

The 2024 “Bridging Communities” Nonprofit conference was attended by more than 300 people representing more than 100 nonprofits and governmental organizations across Maryland, held at UMBC, this event helped forge stronger relationships between government, philanthropic organizations, and the non-profit community. The Conference was a partnership with Maryland Nonprofits, United Way of Central Maryland, the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives (GOCI), Health LeadHer and the Maryland Department of General Services.

Procurement Economy Playbook Launch Event

Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman alongside Bruce Katz from the Drexel University Nowak Metro Finance Lab released the Procurement Economy Playbook produced by the Lab for the Office of the Comptroller and detailing the scale and scope of government procurement in Maryland and recommendations for greater economic and business growth through procurement. The event included a presentation summarizing the Playbook and a panel discussion with Maryland based companies that do business with federal, state, and local governments.
